I am a reviewer for Media Culture Reviews, a website connected with QUT where I studied journalism back in the day. Most of these reviews have already appeared there, although I will only repost reviews of the books that I would recommend. Therefore, these reviews are all quite positive, but they are honest.
Over time I’ll also be adding reviews of some of my favourite books and authors that I’ve read over the years.
I don’t pretend to be an “expert” on books, an arbiter of taste or a gatekeeper of what you are allowed to read. I just record my honest reactions to the books I read, and hopefully provide enough information to help you decide if you might enjoy a book or not.
I know firsthand and from helping other authors that people spend thousands of hours writing a book, and it is their “baby”. Therefore I try to treat their work with respect. I read each book thoroughly and think about it carefully before hitting the keyboard.
If you are a writer I strongly recommend you consider writing book reviews yourself. It’s amazing what you can learn for your own writing by analysing the work of others. And, thank you to the authors who have put their hard work out there for us all to consider and enjoy.
